Skill Planner

This Skill Planner is a written recommended spend order for PETAPETA: School of Nightmares—not a fake interactive calculator. PETAPETA cannot be killed, so there is no DPS slider to tune. Your permanent power is the cursed-shard tree: how many shards you keep per extract, whether you can stun, how fast you rotate, and when you unlock Hard / Super Hard. Follow the sequence below, bank bags on purpose, and cross-check ranks on the Tier List Hub. Parent index: Tools Hub.

Deep links you will use constantly: Cursed shards, Hard mode, Getting Started, Walkthrough, PETAPETA, and Gamepasses ranked if you are tempted to spend Robux instead of shards.

Example shard budgets

Use these as planning anchors when capacity is still near default. Live payouts scale with difficulty multipliers and your cap; deaths return only a fraction of collected shards, so failed greed is expensive.

DifficultyExample shards / successful extract (low cap)Notes
Normal~150Default-style ceiling before Capacity upgrades
Hard~225Stronger income after the 3000-shard unlock
Super Hard~300Top farming once you can survive the speed

If you raise Shard Capacity, each successful extract can bank more than these figures—that is the entire point of putting Capacity in S tier. If you still sit on the default ceiling, auto-loot mostly helps you hit the cap sooner, not raise permanent progress.

Rough math examples (illustrative):

  • Need 3000 for Hard at ~150/extract → about 20 clean Normal extracts if you spend nothing else.
  • Need another 3000 for Super Hard at ~225/extract on Hard → about 14 clean Hard extracts.
  • Mix in Stun / Speed purchases between unlocks; the planner expects you to split bags, not dump everything into one node if you are dying without stun.

1. Shard Capacity (S)

Buy Capacity nodes until your bag stops truncating mid-wing. Every orb on the floor past your cap is wasted progress. Capacity makes Normal’s ~150 ceiling—and later Hard / Super Hard payouts—actually stick to your account. Do this before cosmetic sinks and before heavy auto-loot investment.

2. Stun — first node, then duration / charges (S)

Unlock the first Stun as soon as you can survive long enough to afford it. Next, prioritize duration and charges over range. A longer, reusable freeze saves gate turns and locker exits; a wide cone you rarely recast does not. Never invent damage numbers—stun is an interrupt against an unkillable spirit. Save casts using the tells on PETAPETA: footsteps, red overlay, scream.

3. Speed (A)

Speed shortens hallway and courtyard exposure. After Capacity and a working stun kit, Speed upgrades turn “almost made the locker” into “made the locker.” It also improves chapter pace for players racing keys before the hunter rotates.

4. Stamina (A)

Stamina keeps Speed honest during long chases. Without it, you sprint once and walk into a scream. Take Stamina beside or just after Speed depending on whether your deaths look like “caught in the open after one dash” (Stamina) or “too slow to the locker” (Speed).

5. Auto-loot shards (B)

Auto-loot is comfort and pace once the bag can hold what you vacuum. On a tiny cap it simply fills you earlier so you stand around waiting for the gate. Park it here—after S and A—not at account level 1.

6. Hard mode unlock — 3000 shards

Unlock Hard only when Normal extracts feel consistent. Hard makes PETAPETA faster and more dangerous while improving shard income (planner anchor ~225 at low caps). Buying Hard during a wipe streak wastes the multiplier. Read Hard mode for visual tells (horns / pupils) and routing notes.

7. Super Hard unlock — 3000 shards

Repeat the consistency test on Hard, then buy Super Hard. Expect maximum pressure and the best farming anchor (~300 at low caps). Red-eye style visuals help confirm the mode. If you still burn stuns on footsteps, stay on Hard another dozen clears.

8. Archives

Spend into Archives lore after the power tree and difficulty unlocks are where you want them. Archives deepen the mystery of PETAPETA; they do not replace Capacity or Stun when you are still failing gates.

Starter perks and pure cosmetic / QoL nodes remain B/C—buy when the list above is healthy. See the tier list for the letter grades and rationale.

Session checklist

  1. Enter lobby with one or two target nodes written down.
  2. Run your chapter via the Walkthrough; loot to cap, not past common sense when mini PETAPETA pressure appears on later levels.
  3. Extract; accept that deaths keep only a fraction—reset greed.
  4. Buy the marked nodes only.
  5. Reassess: if chases kill you, stun/movement before another Capacity leaf you barely fill.
  6. Ignore starting-lobby gamepasses unless you knowingly want pay-to-skip (gamepasses).

Co-op and PvP notes

In co-op, coordinate who banks shards versus who holds stun utility so the team is not all Capacity and no interrupt. In PvP, remember a player may be PETAPETA—your planner still applies to survivors, but hunter practice teaches which locker lines are bait.

Print the order mentally: Capacity → Stun → Speed → Stamina → Auto-loot → Hard (3000) → Super Hard (3000) → Archives. If a patch adds a node that changes extract math more than those pillars, re-rank it on the tier hub and insert it here with a date note—do not silently break the sequence mid-season.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for School of Nightmares players.

What is the best skill order in PETAPETA School of Nightmares?

Shard Capacity, then Stun (first node plus duration/charges over range), then Speed, Stamina, auto-loot, Hard unlock (3000), Super Hard unlock (3000), then Archives.

How many shards should I plan per run?

As planning anchors with a low capacity upgrade path: about 150 on Normal, 225 on Hard, and 300 on Super Hard per successful extract. Raise Capacity to bank more than those ceilings.

Why is stun duration better than range?

PETAPETA is unkillable; stun is an interrupt. Longer freezes and extra charges save gate turns and locker exits more often than a wider cone you rarely reuse.

When do I unlock Hard mode?

After consistent Normal extracts. Hard costs 3000 cursed shards and increases danger plus income. Buying it during a wipe streak wastes the multiplier—see Hard mode.

Is this planner a live calculator?

No. It is a written spend order with example budgets. Use it with the Tier List Hub and Cursed shards guide rather than inventing DPS math.

Should auto-loot come before capacity?

No. Auto-loot fills a small bag faster but does not raise how many shards you permanently bank past the cap. Capacity first, auto-loot after S and A tiers.
