Archives in PETAPETA School of Nightmares
Spend Cursed Shards on lore pages after your skill tree can actually keep you alive.
The Archives are Omochi Studio’s lore codex for PETAPETA: School of Nightmares. The official description is blunt: collect Cursed Shards, unlock the Archives, and get closer to the hidden mystery of PETAPETA. This is not a second skill tree. It is a story ledger you buy with the same currency that pays for stun, capacity, Hard Mode, and Super Hard. Spend here too early and you stall the upgrades that keep you out of jumpscares.
This page explains what Archives are for, how they compete with the Skill up tab, and when to buy pages. Pair it with Cursed Shards and the skill planner.

What Archives actually unlock
Archives entries are lore pages about the abandoned school and PETAPETA’s “same but another” identity versus the hotel original. Community notes mention a first darkness page that asks you to collect more shards to uncover the school’s tragic past. Exact page titles rotate with patches; treat the menu as a codex, not a loot table. There is no English student roster to complete — see the Players Hub.
Archives do not open the courtyard gate. Keys and padlocks still win the run. Archives do not stun PETAPETA. If a page looks like a gameplay unlock, re-read the tooltip. Gameplay unlocks sit on Skill up: stamina, stun, speed, capacity, auto-loot, Hard (3000), Super Hard (3000).
Currency conflict
Default shard cap is 150 per run unless you upgrade capacity. Escape keeps 100%. Death keeps about 20%. Surviving teammates can receive shards from fallen players. That bag is the same bag Archives wants.
A useful rule: do not buy Archives pages until Capacity and first Stun exist. A lore page cannot hide you in a locker. After you extract consistently on Normal, you can drip leftover shards into Archives between Hard Mode savings. Hard and Super Hard each cost 3000 — a single impulsive lore dump can delay those unlocks by many runs. Details on difficulty spend are on Hard Mode and Super Hard.
Suggested spend sequence
- Capacity so each extract actually banks orbs.
- Stun so you can reach lockers — How to Hide.
- Speed and Stamina.
- Auto-loot if you play mobile or hate tapping every orb.
- Save toward Hard, then Super Hard.
- Then Archives pages with overflow shards.
That order matches the tier list. Archives is C-tier for extract rate and S-tier for curiosity. Both are valid; only one keeps you alive.
How to farm for pages without dying broke
Sweep classrooms and lockers for orbs while you already hunt keys. Do not open a “lore only” run that ignores the gate — death still taxes 20%. Use the Safe Room TV and school map so you are not wandering empty wings. Secret rooms can dump large shard piles; enter them only with a locker line planned.
On Hard (+50% shards) and Super Hard (+100%), overflow appears faster. That is the honest time to binge Archives. Buying pages on a struggling Normal account is how players stay stuck at 150 cap forever.
Story without spoilers you cannot verify
The school is “the same but another PETAPETA.” The hotel original is still live as a separate Roblox experience. Archives is the in-game way Omochi lets you read why the school exists without leaving the lobby. This wiki does not invent classmate names or fake document IDs. If a page in your client has a title, it is canon for your build; if a YouTube thumbnail invents a secret ending code, check Codes — there are still no working Twitter-style promo codes as of September 2026.

Unlock Archives because you want the mystery. Unlock stun because you want to leave the building. School of Nightmares rewards both, but only one is optional.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for School of Nightmares players.
Do Archives help me escape?

What currency unlocks Archives?
Cursed Shards. The same shards buy capacity, stun, Hard Mode, and Super Hard.
