Getting Started

PETAPETA: School of Nightmares is a Roblox horror escape game by Omochi Studio, live since 7 October 2024 on place 110280222997707. The pitch is blunt: an abandoned Japanese school, online co-op or solo, and the same nightmare energy as classic PETAPETA — It’s the same but another PETAPETA. This Getting Started guide walks you from lobby to first courtyard escape without assuming you already know locker timing or shard spending.

Bookmark the Guides Hub after this page. When you need deeper detail, jump to How to Find Keys, How to Hide, the Walkthrough, Cursed Shards, Hard Mode, and PvP. Threat lore lives on PETAPETA. Keep Codes, Scripts, the Tier List, Gamepasses, Updates, the Skill Planner, and the Wiki hub open for later sessions.

Join the lobby and start a run

Load into the experience and find the lobby start pads. Step on the red squares to begin. Confirm your party size before you commit: solo is fine, but friends change the key and lock count. More teammates mean more keys to collect and more padlocks on the exit. Decide roles in chat before the school loads — one caller for Safe Room TV hints, one locker sweeper per floor, one runner who only carries matched keys to the courtyard.

Controls you must memorize

InputAction
WASDMove
EInteract (keys, lockers, glass, doors, TV, padlocks)
CCrouch
Left ShiftSprint (uses stamina)

Sprint is not free. Burn Left Shift only for hallway dashes after a chase cue or for the final gate push. Crouch with C when you need quieter movement near open classrooms. Interact with E on every golden glow, locker door, and padlock — missing a glow on a table is the most common early fail.

Your real objective

Find keys, read the symbol on the handle, match that symbol to the correct padlock on the courtyard / exit gate, then escape. Wrong matches show Wrong Key. Do not spam every lock with every key; that wastes the quiet window after a successful hide. Solo runs need three keys. Scale up with your party size.

Keys appear on the floor, inside school lockers, and on tables. They have a golden glow, so sweep slowly with your camera. When you are lost, go to the Safe Room. Its TV shows the next key location (for example classroom 1-A). Maps on both floors mark classroom numbers and locker rows — use them like a real floor plan, not decoration.

First-run checklist (about 15 minutes)

  1. Step on lobby red squares and load in with headphones on and graphics maxed if your device allows it. Flashing lights are part of the experience; take breaks if needed.
  2. Locate the Safe Room early. Watch the TV once before you wander randomly.
  3. Open the floor maps and note classroom numbers that match the TV hint.
  4. Sweep lockers and tables in that zone for golden glows. Press E on every candidate.
  5. Carry one confirmed key toward the courtyard. Match the handle symbol to the padlock. If you see Wrong Key, leave and continue the search.
  6. When footsteps rise and the screen reddens, hide in a school locker before the scream/shake beat that marks PETAPETA’s arrival.
  7. Repeat until every required lock is open, then escape.

You cannot kill PETAPETA. The Stun skill only delays her. Treat Stun as a bridge to a locker, never as a win condition. Read How to Hide before you attempt aggressive hallway plays.

Cursed Shards on day one

While you search, pick up Cursed Shard orbs in rooms and lockers. Default carry capacity is 150. Escape with shards for the full amount; die and you keep about 20%. Surviving teammates can receive shards from fallen players, so co-op still rewards the group when someone is downed. Spend shards in the Skill up tab on stamina, stun, speed, capacity, and auto-loot. Hard and Super Hard each cost 3000 shards — Hard gives +50% shards, Super Hard +100%. Do not buy Hard Mode until your stun and stamina feel reliable; use the Skill Planner and Cursed Shards guide first.

Levels you will meet after the tutorial feel

After you can clear a basic key hunt, the Walkthrough covers the full ladder:

  • Level 1 — find keys with no extra gimmick.
  • Level 2 — break glass or doors to reach keys.
  • Level 3 — teleport holes between rooms (example: an A hole drops you into a C room).
  • Level 4 — Mini PETAPETA; getting caught collapses you and drains powers.

Learn symbol matching and locker hides on easier loops before you force level 3 teleports under pressure.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Sprinting every hallway until stamina is empty when PETAPETA appears.
  • Ignoring the Safe Room TV and searching blind.
  • Forcing Wrong Key attempts instead of reading handle symbols.
  • Standing in the open after the screen reddens instead of entering a locker.
  • Spending all shards on Hard Mode before capacity and stun upgrades.
  • Playing without headphones so chase footsteps arrive too late.

After your first escape

Claim any active gifts on Codes, skim Scripts only with account-safety in mind, compare paid options on Gamepasses, and check Updates for balance changes. Study enemy patterns on PETAPETA, then push difficulty with Hard Mode and competitive lobbies via PvP. Return to the Guides Hub whenever you need the full tutorial index, or the Wiki hub for official and community links.

Your first goal is not a perfect speedrun. It is a calm loop: red square start, Safe Room TV, glow search, symbol match, locker hide, escape. Once that loop is muscle memory, How to Find Keys and the Walkthrough will feel natural instead of overwhelming.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for School of Nightmares players.

How do I start a match in PETAPETA School of Nightmares?

In the lobby, step onto the red squares to begin the run. Confirm party size first because more teammates add more keys and exit locks.

What are the default controls?

WASD to move, E to interact, C to crouch, and Left Shift to sprint. Sprint drains stamina, so save it for chases and the final gate.

How do keys and padlocks work?

Keys glow gold and show a symbol on the handle. Match that symbol to the correct courtyard or exit padlock. A mismatch shows Wrong Key.

Where should I go if I cannot find a key?

Visit the Safe Room TV for the next location hint, then use the floor maps that mark classroom numbers and lockers.

What happens when PETAPETA starts chasing me?

Listen for footsteps, watch the screen redden, and hide in a school locker before the scream or shake that signals she is about to arrive.

Should I unlock Hard Mode on my first day?

Usually no. Upgrade stamina and stun first, learn hiding and key matching, then spend 3000 Cursed Shards on Hard or Super Hard.
